About Us
The Bangkok’s branch of the Dante Alighieri Society was initially set up in Thailand in 1930. Almost a hundred years later the Dante Alighieri Society of Bangkok is a non-profit organisation that aims to promote Italian Language and Culture. It does so through cultural events, gatherings, language courses and certifications, cooking classes, film forums and more.
It operates entirely through the work of volunteers and it finances itself through members’ subscriptions, donations, private and public sponsorship and through the events it organises.
It is editorially and structurally depending on the Società Dante Alighieri based in Rome.
The Bangkok Branch’s language program has now added language proficiency certification options in conjunction with with the international organization. The certifications are recognized in obtaining extended and work Visa by the Italian government.
Additionally we are certified as an official entity of the Società Dante Alighieri, an international organization headquartered in Rome, Italy.
Membership is open to anyone interested in the goals and ideals of our society regardless of ethnic origin, nationality, religion and social status. Many of us are native Italians or of Italian ancestry, but many of us are not. So if you love things Italian or just want to learn more about Italy, its people and its language, you are welcome.
Membership to the Dante Alighieri Society of Bangkok is also a Discount card if you are planning to travel to Italy and want to take advantage of this benefit.
The Worldwide Dante Alighieri Society
The Società Dante Alighieri was initially formed in Italy in July 1889. The society was named after Dante Alighieri (1265-1321), a pre-Renaissance poet from Florence and the author of The Divine Comedy. Dante is considered the father of the Italian language. Read more
